Pastor’s Corner – June 11, 2023

If you haven’t noticed yet, there was an annual Pride Parade in Dallas last Weekend. Yes, it’s Pride Month and throughout the nation there are parades and events that’s fun, affirming and inclusive celebration. Here is a link that will show you more events coming up this June.  Home 2023 – Dallas Pride

While I may read like an advertisement for Pride, as a faith community, it is more than that. It’s about partnering with communities that seek justice and affirmation of long neglected and marginalized people in our community, in our family and in our church, unjustly for who they are with God given sexual identities LGBQ+.

I want to encourage you to follow the links below and learn more about how these movements and our participation can create a safe, welcoming and more hospitable place of worship and community. It is my hope that we may have an ongoing conversation and maybe next year we can join the Pride Parade!

In our PCUSA, we have two movements: More Light Presbyterians (More Light Presbyterians – We’re working toward the full participation of LGBTQIA+ people in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) – and in society. (mlp.org)) and Covenant Network of Presbyterians (Becoming a Welcoming Church | Covenant Network of Presbyterians (covnetpres.org)

This coming Sunday we read from the gospel of Matthew 9, God’s power and mercy demonstrated in healing ministry of Jesus. Those who are marginalized and neglected “those sinners!” as pointed out by the Pharisees, tax collectors, sinners and unclean woman hemorrhaging, they gathered around Jesus. If you ask me, I think Jesus would join the Pride Parade, affirm and welcome all God’s children. Amen.
