All in for the Kingdom of God – Luke 24:25-33
The message from the gospel is clear, to follow the way of Jesus is not cheap. It will cost everything we have and all that we are. It’s not something we can commit to half heartedly or something we do like joining a gym, club, political party or even a membership to a religious institution. None of these demand our ultimate commitment that’s transformative and foundational as the Kingdom of God. In Biblical terms, the Kingdom of God is about the reality of God’s reign and what that means for our world. Jesus preached,“Repent for the kingdom of God has come!” It means turning from our ways that leads to destruction to life giving in God’s love and grace!
More than ever we need to hear this message of good news. In the world where there are competing voices that suggest otherwise, pretending to give answers to the most pressing issues of our times have failed to deliver the common good, justice, mercy, peace and reconciliation we need today. What Jesus offers is a way to follow a path to wholeness in our broken world. It’s about forgiveness and love that leads toward freedom, liberation and humanity. The compelling message of Jesus Christ is the good news of God’s redeeming love from human suffering.
No military might, no power displayed by empires nor violence by oppressive systems of injustice can silence this gospel. Yes, not even death on the cross. As followers of Jesus we are Easter people. We are called to make a difference. We gather to worship and be a church to remember who we are and our mission. We are disciplines of Jesus Christ who share the same baptism and call to preach good news to our world. Amen.
